Our story
Once upon a time (well, about 10 years ago), a teacher from south London looked around at her Year 12 students and thought:
“Do these bright young people really want to spend their work experience week folding jumpers in Primark?”
Spoiler: the answer was a very loud no!!
And so, Camps Abroad was born.
We started with a simple idea: give young people the chance to do something different, something bold, and something unforgettable. Instead of staring at tills or stockrooms, why not learn new skills in Botswana, explore the rhythms of Jamaica, or dive into the energy of Ghana?
Our camps aren’t about lectures or endless PowerPoint slides. They’re about adventure, teamwork, laughter, and a little bit of “wow, I didn’t know I could do that!” Whether it’s learning the art of coffee farming, trading ideas with local students, or spotting lions on safari, every day is packed with opportunities to grow — not just as students, but as leaders.

Our team is made up of practicing teachers, youth workers, health professionals and experienced camp mentors, all united in our passion to expose young people to different cultures. Our partners that we work with on the ground at each of the camps are all dedicated to ensuring that your young person has the experience of a lifetime.

We work closely with trusted local partners to ensure participants experience daily life, traditions, and community values firsthand. From working alongside local young people to sharing food, stories, and customs, cultural exchange sits at the heart of everything we do.
Leadership skills
Each programme is carefully structured to develop independence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership. Through guided reflection, challenges, and responsibility, participants return home more confident, self-aware, and ready to take on new opportunities.
