What is Camp Botswana?
Camp Botswana is a work experience opportunity and volunteering experience, blending cultural immersion, hands-on skills development and community service. Students get to explore Botswana’s rich cultural heritage, contribute to environmental sustainability projects, and engage with local communities, local children, and local wildlife.

Camp Botswana invites you into the heart of one of Africa’s most magical destinations, located in the south of Africa—a place where untouched wilderness meets rich cultural heritage, and every day feels like a new adventure waiting to unfold. Picture waking up to the soft calls of nature, spending your days volunteering at animal sanctuaries or in local schools, and your nights sharing stories under a sky filled with stars.
Botswana is a world leader in conservation, and Camp Botswana gives you the opportunity to learn from dedicated wildlife experts and support efforts that protect endangered species and fragile ecosystems.
Locations
Camp Botswana has two locations:
Maun:
In the North of Botswana, set on the edge of the Okavango Delta, our Maun camp offers a truly immersive nature experience. Maun is home to the largest elephant population in the world, meaning part of the volunteering section will be at an elephant sanctuary. Here, campers connect with Botswana’s rich natural heritage engaging with local traditions and communities, take part in hands-on sustainability and conservation projects.
Gaborone:
Home to Botswana’s vibrant capital, our Gaborone camp is located in the heart of where the action is. It is the perfect blend of community engagement, conservation, and educational placement to create a rich, hands-on learning experience. From hiking Kgale Hill to creating traditional pottery and teaching local children.

For university students there is the option for flights to be arranged for you or to sort your travel to camp by yourself

We understand this is a lot of money; however, this is the opportunity of a lifetime and we are here to help. You have to be committed to raising funds and we will provide support and applications for this

Make your Camp Botswana experience even more valuable by upgrading to the Level 3 Diploma in Global Citizenship Qualification with a Wildlife Studies focus. While attending camp you’ll already complete around 40 hours of practical learning, and with just 40 hours of guided independent study afterwards, you can earn a recognised qualification. We support you step-by-step with resources, check-ins and feedback, helping you reflect on conservation, ecosystems and human–wildlife coexistence. It’s a powerful addition to university, apprenticeship and career applications — proving real commitment, knowledge and initiative beyond travel alone. Meaning you leave with a qualification which is an additional 16 UCAS points.
